It’s official — the federal election has been called and voters will head to the ballot box on April 28 to elect a new prime minister and government.
The stakes could not be higher. This election comes at a critical moment, with Canada facing multiple crises — a climate crisis, a cost-of-living crisis, and a global trade war driven by Donald Trump.
One of the front-runners for prime minister — the Conservative Party’s Pierre Poilievre — would make every single one of those crises worse. Poilievre pretends to care about Canadians, but make no mistake: he is our version of Trump — a climate-denying, billionaire-loving career politician, who only has the best interests of the rich at heart and has even been endorsed by Trump’s right hand man, Elon Musk!
So I’m writing to you today to explain how we’re going to make sure Pierre Poilievre will not be elected our next prime minister. But before I dive into our plans, I have to ask:
Here are our plans for the upcoming election cycle:
- Expose Pierre’s lies by telling the truth: We will use every platform we can to counter Poilievre’s misinformation. We might have a much smaller ad budget than Pierre, but we’ve got something better: a mass movement that can help us reach tens of thousands of people by plastering communities across the country with posters, sharing content on social media, intervening in the mainstream media narrative, and having 1-1 conversations with friends, neighbours, and family members. But it’s not just about exposing the lies. We will also tell a bold story about the future that’s possible with a Green New Deal that ensures resilience in the face of the climate emergency, cost-of-living crisis, and trade war with the U.S.
- Organize a national day of action: We will organize communities across the country for a day of action that exposes Poilievre’s deep ties to billionaires and mega corporations. Together, we will captivate media attention, engage the public, and make sure that the truth shines brightly.
- Build up a strong movement after the election: Whatever the outcome of the election, we will need a strong movement that resists the corporate agenda and pushes for strong policies at all levels of government. That’s why we’ve got a plan to train up hundreds of organizers that will kick off organizing efforts in communities from coast to coast to coast.
The momentum is already on our side: since Trump’s inauguration in January, Poilievre and the Conservative Party have been steadily losing support. What looked like landslide odds just a few months ago (98% probability that the Conservatives would win a majority government) is now a much tighter race.
This is our chance to kick Poilievre to the curb — but we can’t do it without your help.
Together, we can send an unmistakable message to the Conservative Party, their billionaire buddies and the fossil fuel industry that the Canadian people will not settle for a future that only works for the rich. We will never stop fighting for a future for all of us.
